Advisory Shadow Program
Advisory Shadow Program
Applications for the 2027 Advisory Shadow Program are now open!
Deadline Extended to Friday, November 6, 2026
Overview
The Region I Advisory Shadow Program (ASP) is Region I’s primary leadership development program. The purpose is to foster connection between members, promote professional growth, and to serve as a leadership pipeline for the Region. Region I members in good standing will have an opportunity to witness the business and programmatic aspects of running Region I activities by “shadowing” in a non-voting capacity at Advisory Board meetings over the course of the calendar year.
While advisory shadows are non-voting members of the Advisory Board, they are expected to attend board meetings and encouraged to share their opinions, participate in ad hoc subcommittees, and otherwise serve as active members of the board.
Please email the Advance & Educate Committee for more information.
Regional Needs Served
Identifying and recruiting future leaders for Region I is among our top priorities. By providing Region I members with an informal exposure to the inner workings of the region, ASP is intended to inspire Region I members to volunteer for key leadership positions.
Participant Benefits
Members who participate in ASP will build relationships with local leaders in research administration, while witnessing volunteerism in action. Ideally, this opportunity serves as a track to future volunteerism, leadership and other professional development or networking opportunities. The Advisory Board also benefits from new perspectives added to committee discussions.
Implementation
A call for applicants will go out in the weekly e-Blast and on social media in mid-fall. Interested members will be asked to submit an application form. Once applications have closed, the Advance & Educate Committee, with input from the Region I Chair-Elect, will review and select up to three (3) Region I members to participate based on the criteria described below.
All applicants will be notified by the Advance & Educate Committee as soon as a decision has made about their application. Accepted applicants will be announced in the e-Blast and on social media.
Assessment and Follow-up
During the period of participation, all Advisory Shadows will be assigned a mentor from the Advisory Board, who will act as a resource for questions on regional issues and meeting protocols. The same mentor will follow up with the Advisory Shadow to assess how the program is working and the value added as a professional development opportunity for the participant
Criteria for Candidate Selection
Participants will be selected based upon a combination of factors, including years in the profession, skill set, service to NCURA, and expression of interest in participating, as indicated on the application form.
Applicants who are not selected are encouraged to apply again the following year.
